Eastside Surgery Center opens in Spearfish
Eastside Surgery Center (ESC) is open at Eastside Acres, a development in Spearfish, South Dakota. Led by local podiatrist Dr. Lorri Riley and supported by ASCend Specialists of Gillette, Wyoming, ESC will function as a standalone ambulatory surgery center (ASC).
“Working with Eastside Surgery Center allows us to provide outpatient surgical care to a community that truly needs it,” Linda Bedwell, CEO of ASCend Specialists, said in a statement. “We will offer a mix of clinical excellence, financial expertise, and patient-first operations. Our aim is to help ESC deliver top-quality surgical care while remaining connected to the Spearfish community.”
Riley founded Spearfish Surgery Center in 1995 and sold a majority stake to Queen City Medical in 1997.
“As someone deeply invested in the health and growth of this community, I believe Eastside Surgery Center will be transformational,” Riley said. “We will bring advanced surgical care closer to home — to our neighbors, our families, our region — and do so with a model that emphasizes quality, access and local control.””
ESC will be organized to support various surgical specialties over time, based on community needs and physician collaborations. Planning and design are already in progress, with construction scheduled to begin in the upcoming months.
ESC is targeting a completion date of late 2026.
