Optim Surgery Center names new administrator

Optim Health System has appointed James Barnes as surgery center administrator for Optim Surgery Center in Savannah, Georgia. Barnes will oversee daily operations, clinical performance and administrative functions.

Barnes returns to Optim with more than a decade of clinical and operational experience in surgical services. His career has included roles as a Level 1 trauma nurse, pain management supervisor at Optim, and in DaVinci robotic surgical systems and operating room nursing.

“James brings a unique combination of clinical expertise and operational leadership that will benefit Optim Surgery Center,” Brian Evans, COO of Optim, said in a statement. “His familiarity with our organization and proven commitment to surgical excellence make him a strong leader to guide these centers forward.”

Staten Island University appoints total joint director

New York’s Staten Island University has appointed fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon Dr. Yevgeniy A. Korshunov as director of its total joint program. Korshunov brings over a decade of expertise in advanced surgical reconstruction to oversee the hospital’s joint replacement programs.

“Dr. Korshunov is an accomplished surgeon, educator and researcher, whose expertise and leadership are invaluable to our hospital,” Dr. Brahim Ardolic, president of Northwell’s Metro Market, which covers Staten Island, Manhattan, Brooklyn and parts of Queens, said in a statement.

Before joining Staten Island University Hospital, Korshunov worked as an orthopedic surgeon at New York Orthopedics, specializing in complex joint replacement and revision surgeries.

CommonSpirit names new CFO

Michael Browning has been named CommonSpirit Health’s new senior executive vice president and chief financial officer, effective Jan. 2.

Browning joins Chicago-based CommonSpirit from OhioHealth in Columbus, where he has served as executive vice president and CFO since 2019.

The 30-year veteran succeeds Daniel Morissette, who is retiring. Morissette has served as the system’s CFO since 2019.

Browning will oversee all financial operations for the system, which includes 138 hospitals and more than 2,200 care sites across 24 states. He will be responsible for the health system’s financial strategy, planning, accounting, treasury, reimbursement, revenue cycle and investor relations.

“We are thrilled to welcome Michael to CommonSpirit Health,” CEO Wright Lassiter III said in a press release. “He is a seasoned financial leader with a profound understanding of complex health care systems and a proven track record of driving financial strength and strategic growth. His expertise and leadership will be invaluable as we work to navigate a complex and evolving health care landscape and deliver on our mission.”

Eye Health America taps new CEO and chief growth officer

Eye Health America (EHA), an integrated eye care platform based in Greenville, South Carolina, announced Jay Burkett as its new CEO. At the same time, Mary Lou Parisi, co-CEO, was appointed chief growth officer.

Burkett has spent his 30-year career advising companies on improving business performance, often through periods of rapid growth and change. He has held several permanent and interim management roles, including C-level positions at multi-state, multi-site health care organizations.

Parisi will shift from her current co-CEO role to this newly created position, enabling her to concentrate on supporting EHA’s 130-plus physicians across more than 60 locations.

EHA will expand its presence across the Southeastern U.S. through partnerships with ophthalmology and optometry practices. So far, the company has established 32 collaborations with eye care providers, supporting its mission to deliver integrated eye care through a network of providers and outpatient surgery centers.
