Surgery Ventures has named Shaun Cartwright chief operating officer, according to a post from the ambulatory surgery center (ASC) business on LinkedIn.

Cartwright has been with the organization since 2006 and most recently served as senior vice president of operations. He has overseen the creation of new leadership roles within the company, including the first assistant vice president of operations position.

Specifically, Cartwright was responsible for Surgery Ventures’ Western Region, where he oversaw 47 surgery centers across eight markets in four states.

Over the years, he has also been involved in mentoring staff who later moved into leadership positions of their own, according to the Surgery Ventures.

“His extensive experience and proven leadership will be invaluable as we continue to enhance the quality of care we provide to our patients and communities,” the LinkedIn post reads.

Surgery Ventures is the ambulatory surgery center division of HCA Healthcare (NYSE: HCA), which is headquartered in Nashville, Tennessee. The division develops, owns and operates outpatient surgery centers through physician partnerships across the country.

As of the end of 2024, Surgery Ventures jointly owned and operated about 150 ambulatory surgery and endoscopy centers across 16 states.

Those centers worked with more than 3,400 physician partners and supported over 7,000 employees. Collectively, they performed more than 800,000 procedures last year.

Contextually, Cartwright takes on the COO role as HCA continues to grow its surgical volumes while evaluating expansion opportunities.

“We continue to add facilities … as well as acquisitions where we can,” CEO Sam Hazen said in July during the company’s Q2 2025 earnings call. “We think that will continue to produce the necessary overall capacity to meet the demands as well as the share gains that we anticipate with our initiatives.”
