Zimmer Biomet (NYSE: ZBH) and Getinge on July 10 announced a strategic partnership that aims to provide ambulatory surgery centers (ASCs) with a bundled offering of surgical capital equipment, infection control products and implants via a single point of contact.
Under the agreement, Zimmer Biomet will distribute Getinge’s operating room capital products – including OR integration systems, lighting and sterilization technology – alongside its own suite of joint replacement implants and surgical robotics.
The combined offering will be folded into Zimmer Biomet’s existing ZBX ASC Solutions portfolio.
The collaboration comes as orthopedic surgeries increasingly shift from hospitals to ASCs, which now perform more than 22 million procedures annually in the U.S. alone.
“Together with Getinge, we’re expanding our ability to deliver a comprehensive, turnkey solution for our ASC customers – faster and more seamlessly – from a company they know and trust,” Jehanzeb Noor, Zimmer Biomet’s chief strategy and innovation officer, said in a press release.
The partnership will roll out in phases, starting in the U.S., with an eye toward international expansion.
For Getinge, which is best known for hospital-focused infection control and OR equipment, the deal marks a notable play into the growing ASC sector.
“For us, this partnership represents a significant advancement in our efforts to innovate and expand the boundaries of health care,” Patricia Fitch, president of Getinge’s North America arm, said in the release. “We are thrilled to collaborate with Zimmer Biomet to deliver value to health care professionals and patients within the orthopedic ASC sector.”
With $7.68 billion in 2024 annual revenue, Zimmer Biomet is a global medical technology company specializing in orthopedic implants, surgical robotics and digital health solutions, with a focus on enhancing mobility and improving surgical outcomes across hospital and outpatient settings.
