Ascension CEO Joseph Impicciche will retire at the end of 2025 after two decades.
Eduardo Conrado, Ascension’s current president, has been named his successor and will officially step into the CEO role at the start of 2026.
The leadership change comes at a pivotal moment for Ascension, as the St. Louis-based health system is acquiring ambulatory surgery center (ASC) giant AMSURG in a deal that’s reportedly worth $3.9 billion.
“This acquisition is deeply aligned with Ascension’s Mission to provide compassionate, personalized care to all, especially those most in need,” Impicciche said in a statement after that acquisition agreement was announced. “It reflects our steadfast commitment to expanding access to care in a way that is more affordable, more local, and more centered around the dignity and well-being of those we serve.”
Conrado, a former Motorola executive who joined Ascension in 2018, played a key role in developing the system’s digital strategy and spearheaded a $2.6 billion financial turnaround, Ascension said in a press release.
As president, he advanced ambulatory growth, reduced reliance on contract labor and introduced tools like the Ascension One app to improve patient access.
“As health care continues to evolve, I will stay focused on centering care around people, delivering more compassionate, connected and human experiences,” Conrado said in a press release. “I look forward to building on our strong foundation, continuing to transform our care delivery portfolio, advancing innovation and working alongside our dedicated associates, caregivers and partners to meet the changing needs of the communities we serve.”
