DISC Surgery Center, a provider for high-acuity outpatient spine and joint procedures, is planting its flag in Florida for the first time.
The California-based ambulatory surgery center (ASC) network, backed by management company TriasMD, will open a new facility in West Palm Beach later this year – its sixth ASC overall and first outside of the Golden State.
The DISC Surgery Center at West Palm Beach will include three operating suites, seven pre-op rooms, five PACU bays and an on-site musculoskeletal clinic.
“West Palm Beach is an affluent and rapidly expanding city that is attractive for many reasons. Not only is it close to the airport and major golf centers, but it is also a popular location for Northeasterners looking for second homes,” TriasMD CEO James Becker told ASC News. “There has been a lot of recent capital investment into building out this region to better serve its growing population, but no dedicated outpatient surgery centers for the specialized spine and total joint care DISC delivers. We saw a great opportunity to change that.”
The center will focus on minimally invasive spine and total joint procedures using robotics, image guidance and motion-preserving techniques.
Like its sister centers in California, the Florida facility is built around a concierge model.
“This is not your everyday orthopedic ASC,” DISC spine surgeon Dr. Jason Cuéllar said in a press release. “This is the future of motion preservation wrapped in safety and comfort.”
DISC currently operates five ASCs in California, and recently opened a high-acuity spine and orthopedic center in Carlsbad. A sixth California site is expected to launch later this year.
DISC’s founder, neurosurgeon Dr. Robert Bray, merged the company with TriasMD in 2022 to scale the model nationally, starting with expansion throughout California before looking east.
“The goal was to expand, to take our model and scale it,” Bray recently told ASC News. “We’ve been in the process of expanding throughout California. When we look at regional areas, North County San Diego is a natural choice. There are many unique factors to consider, like population density, payer mix and the characteristics of the region.”
The development process for the West Palm Beach center began in February 2024, with permitting through the Florida Agency for Health Care Administration and local officials taking roughly six months. The team broke ground in December and remains on track to open the facility in Q4 2025, the company told ASC News.
Looking ahead, TriasMD is evaluating additional markets beyond California and Florida.
“We are actively exploring several opportunities in major metropolitan markets, so please stay tuned as we’re able to reveal those specifics,” Becker said.
