Louisiana Orthopaedic Specialists (LOS), the largest orthopedic and spine care provider in Acadiana, has opened a new ambulatory surgery center in Lafayette.
The LOS Surgery Center features eight operating rooms and two procedure rooms equipped with the latest surgical technology, including robotics, and is designed to support a broad spectrum of orthopedic, spine and joint replacement procedures.
The center will serve as a regional hub for outpatient musculoskeletal procedures, and will feature modern interiors, specialized recovery spaces, and a dedicated clinical team led by LOS’s fellowship-trained physicians, Michael Prejean, CEO of LOS, said in a press release.
“LOS Surgery Center represents a new era of innovation and excellence in orthopedic and spine care for the region,” Prejean said. “Our goal is to provide unparalleled, patient-centered surgical services in a cutting-edge environment that reflects our commitment to quality, safety and cost-effective care.”
DISC Surgery Center at Tarzana to open later this year
TriasMD, parent company of DISC Surgery Centers, has broken ground on a new facility in Tarzana, California, which is scheduled to open in the third quarter of 2025.
Located at Ventura Boulevard and Lindley Avenue, the 19,936-square-foot, two-story medical building will house the ambulatory surgery center on the ground floor and a full-service spine and orthopedic clinic on the second floor.
The ASC will feature three fully integrated operating suites and 11 patient beds, including five private pre-op rooms and six PACU bays.
“This is far more than just a typical surgery center,” John Gresko, TriasMD’s executive architect, said in a press release. “Every detail has been thoughtfully engineered to elevate the outpatient experience while delivering the level of care and complexity typically found in a hospital.”
DISC expects to perform approximately 1,300 spine surgeries and 400 robotic total joint replacements annually at the new center, along with a full range of general orthopedics and interventional pain management procedures. The model is projected to generate $60 million in annual savings for patients and payers when compared to traditional inpatient surgical programs, executives said.
“We are excited to bring the pinnacle of musculoskeletal care to the heart of the San Fernando Valley with our newest surgery center and clinic,” James H. Becker, CEO of TriasMD, said in the release. “Tarzana marks our second location to open in 2025, building upon the strength and momentum of DISC’s ASC model to perform complex spine surgery and total joints.”
DISC Surgery Center at Tarzana will join the network’s existing Southern California locations in Marina del Rey, Valencia, Thousand Oaks, Newport Beach and Carlsbad.
Powers Health, OSNI partner on Joint & Spine Center in Crown Point
Powers Health and Orthopedic Specialists of Northwest Indiana (OSNI) have partnered to develop a new ambulatory surgery center focused on orthopedic and spine care in Crown Point, Indiana. The Joint & Spine Center at Powers Health is slated to open in spring 2025.
The 11,000-square-foot facility will offer a full range of services including hip and knee replacements, minimally invasive spine procedures, robotic-assisted surgeries, and treatments for upper and lower extremity conditions. The ASC is part of a growing medical campus that includes the Powers Health Rehabilitation Center and a soon-to-open Cancer Care Center.
“Our partnership will leverage and strengthen the resources of both Powers Health and OSNI to continue to provide exceptional orthopedic care and spine surgery,” Donald P. Fesko, president and CEO of Powers Health, told local news.
The joint effort will enhance the region’s access to specialized musculoskeletal care, Dr. Nitin Khanna, an orthopedic spine surgeon with OSNI, said.
“Uniting two established organizations bolsters fellowship-trained orthopedic and spine surgery services in our communities to benefit our patients,” he said.
USOP, Mid State Orthopaedic break ground on Alexandria ASC
U.S. Orthopaedic Partners (USOP) and Mid State Orthopaedic & Sports Medicine Center have officially broken ground on a new ambulatory surgery center in Alexandria, Louisiana. The state-of-the-art facility is expected to open in August 2026.
The new ASC will feature eight operating suites, two procedure rooms, robotic-assisted technology, an in-house MRI suite and advanced C-arm imaging. It will replace Mid State’s current mobile MRI unit and is designed to improve diagnostic precision, reduce surgical complications and enhance operational efficiency.
“This ASC is a testament to the power of USOP’s model, giving independent orthopedic groups the resources and expertise to build high-performance surgery centers that deliver world-class care,” Dr. Steve Holtzclaw, CEO of USOP, said in a press release. “By investing in cutting-edge ASCs like this one, we’re setting new standards for orthopedic surgery, improving efficiency for practices, and reducing costs for patients.”
The center will allow Mid State to perform outpatient total joint replacements in a dedicated ASC setting, positioning the practice to participate in bundled payment programs while maintaining a high level of surgical quality.
The project will also create 30 new jobs and expand Mid State’s clinic capacity with two new halls, supporting physician recruitment and future growth.
“The ability to provide advanced orthopedic procedures in a state-of-the-art setting means better access, better outcomes, and lower costs for our patients,” Scott Coleman, CEO of Mid State Orthopaedic, said in the release.
HSS opens first New Jersey surgery center
Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) has opened two new facilities in northern New Jersey.
The HSS Northern NJ Surgery Center is HSS’s first ambulatory surgery center in New Jersey. The 7,700-square-foot facility includes three operating rooms, eight pre- and post-op bays, and on-site central sterile processing. The center will focus on orthopedic surgeries of the hip, knee, spine, foot and ankle and upper extremities, along with sports medicine procedures.
“With the advanced technologies we’ve implemented at our ambulatory surgery center, we’re now able to safely perform a wider range of complex procedures that were once only possible in a hospital setting,” Dr. Michael Ast, medical director of the HSS Northern NJ Surgery Center, said in a press release.
Roughly 10 miles away, HSS has also opened a full-service outpatient facility, HSS Paramus – Midland Ave. The new site doubles the size of its previous Paramus location and includes 23 exam rooms, an MRI suite, X-ray, and EOS low-dose imaging. It also features a special procedures unit for injection therapy and offers quicker access to orthopedic care through the HSS Orthopedics Now program.
“This new facility is an exciting milestone in our unending pursuit to make comprehensive care even more accessible,” Dr. Anil Ranawat, medical director of HSS Paramus – Midland Ave, said.
Together, the Mahwah and Paramus sites are intended to reduce wait times, limit the need to travel to New York City for care, and serve the growing number of New Jersey residents seeking specialized orthopedic services. According to HSS, more than 22,000 patients from northern New Jersey received care from the organization in 2024.
