TriasMD, the parent company of the DISC Surgery Centers, is expanding its presence in California with the opening of a new state-of-the-art facility in San Diego’s North County.
Located in the Tri-City Medical Center Health & Wellness Complex in Carlsbad, the 12,000-square-foot DISC Surgery Center is now complete and in the final stages of equipment installation and staffing ahead of opening.
The center will feature three advanced operating suites designed specifically for outpatient spine, orthopedic and pain management procedures. Each suite is fully integrated with motion preservation and surgical technology, including the latest in microscopes, imaging, navigation and robotics for both orthopedic and spine care. The surgery center is adjacent to DISC’s full-service clinic.
“This facility is the culmination of our nearly 20 years of perfecting outpatient spine and orthopedic surgery,” Dr. Robert S. Bray Jr., founding director of DISC, said in a press release. “From infrastructure, technology and tools to protocols, patient care and recovery, all in a pristine and comfortable setting optimized to deliver the best results for our patients.”
Kootenai Health and MultiCare to build medical campus with ASC in Post Falls
Kootenai Health and MultiCare have announced plans to build a new 30-acre medical campus in Post Falls, Idaho, with the first phase including a micro-hospital, a medical office building and an ambulatory surgery center (ASC).
Called the Prairie Medical Campus, the development will be located at the southeast corner of Highway 41 and Prairie Avenue.
The two nonprofit health systems say the joint project strengthens ties between Kootenai’s Coeur d’Alene services and MultiCare’s presence in Washington, including Deaconess and Valley hospitals.
“Working together, we do what we can’t do alone,” Bill Robertson, CEO of MultiCare, said in a press release. “The opportunity and challenge in health care is best served in partnership.”
Construction on the first phase is expected to be completed within two to three years and will include a 12-room emergency department, imaging services, overnight beds, physician office space and the new ASC. The ASC will serve Kootenai Clinic as well as independent physician groups. Future phases may expand the micro-hospital into a full-service hospital as the Post Falls population continues to grow.
“The Prairie Medical Campus in Post Falls is a transformational investment in the future of our region’s health care,” Jamie Smith, CEO of Kootenai Health, said. “Working together allows us to build on the strengths of both organizations for the benefit of our patients.”
Kootenai Health will manage and brand the new campus, while MultiCare is contributing financial investment. The two systems previously partnered on joint urgent care centers and a shared electronic health record system.

Sutter Health unveils $1 billion East Bay expansion with new ASC
Sutter Health has announced a plan to construct a new $1 billion medical campus in Emeryville that will feature a major ambulatory care complex, a full-service hospital and a new ambulatory surgery center.
The Sutter Emeryville Campus will ultimately include 1.3 million square feet of health care space. The first phase includes the development of two existing outpatient buildings. The new ASC will be part of the regional ambulatory care complex, which will offer services in orthopedics, ENT, GI, ophthalmology, women’s health, physical therapy, urgent care and more.
“Our Emeryville campus project represents one of the most significant investments we’re making across our system over the next decade,” Warner Thomas, president and CEO of Sutter Health, said in a press release. “It’s part of our broader vision to meet the community’s growing demand for expanded access to our services across the East Bay footprint.”
The medical center is expected to open in 2032 or 2033, at which point it will replace acute care services at Sutter’s Ashby campus in Berkeley. That campus will be reconfigured to include a new ambulatory surgery center, urgent care services and potentially skilled nursing care.
The expansion also includes major investments at existing campuses. In Oakland, the Summit campus will be home to the new $400 million Stanford Medicine Sutter Health Cancer Center, opening in 2026 with infusion services, outpatient clinics, imaging, radiation oncology and an ASC. Sutter also plans to expand behavioral health services in Berkeley and add primary care capacity at a renovated building near the Ashby BART station, opening in spring 2025.
Sutter Health leaders say the system aims to recruit 95 new primary care physicians across the East Bay by 2028 and plans to train 1,000 residents and fellows each year by 2030 through expanded graduate medical education programs.
“This plan ensures our East Bay patients have seamless access to the full spectrum of Sutter’s integrated services – from primary and specialty outpatient care to ambulatory surgery and inpatient services,” said Dr. Arzou Ahsan, president and CEO of Sutter East Bay Medical Group, said in a press release.
