SCA Health, the ambulatory surgery center (ASC) arm of Optum, acquired OrthoAlliance, an orthopedic management services organization. The acquisition, effective as of November 1, expands SCA Health’s network in orthopedic and sports medicine services.
Optum is the health services business of UnitedHealth Group (NYSE: UHG).
“Since its founding in 2019, OrthoAlliance has focused on providing instant access to high-quality, value-based care throughout Ohio, Indiana and Kentucky,” SCA told ASC News in an email. “As part of SCA Health, OrthoAlliance will continue to focus on improving the health of the patients they serve.”
OrthoAlliance is headquartered in Sharonville, Ohio, and partners with over 200 physicians across a range of orthopedic specialties, with locations in Central and Northern Ohio, the Cincinnati/Dayton market and in Indiana.
“We partner with expert physicians specializing in surgical and non-surgical orthopedics, sports medicine, orthobiologics, joint replacement and spine care, we provide some of the most innovative treatment plans in the region,” the OrthoAlliance website states. “We also provide physical therapy and imaging services to give every patient comprehensive and efficient care all under one roof.”
The organization was originally founded in partnership with physician practices in the Midwest and Revelstoke Capital Partners, a private equity firm based in Denver.
SCA Health’s strategic expansion in orthopedics aligns with broader industry trends, as more surgical procedures, particularly joint replacements, are migrating from the hospital to outpatient settings.
