Part of a broader expansion plan, the center aims to address rising regional demand for ambulatory surgical services. Scheduled to open in 2026, the facility will house multiple operating rooms and advanced procedural areas, targeting streamlined, efficient care for the community.
“Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist continues to serve thousands of patients in Greensboro, and we are committed to growing in Guilford County and offering more convenient and high-quality health care choices for our community, close to home,” Dr. David Zaas, president of Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist, said in a press release. “This groundbreaking marks not only the beginning of a new outpatient surgery center, multispecialty medical office building and cancer center, but furthers our commitment to continued investments and growth in Greensboro.”
The outpatient surgery center will have three operating rooms and two procedure rooms. It will include specialty services in cardiology, gastroenterology, general surgery and orthopedics.

UVM Medical Center to delay ASC project
The University of Vermont Medical Center has confirmed a delay in its planned outpatient surgery center due to recent budget cuts.
Originally scheduled to launch in 2025, the project will face a postponement until funding can be secured, according to the center’s administration.
“This is not a step we wanted to take, because we know this will delay our ability to reduce wait times for surgeries that patients desperately need,” Dr. Stephen Leffler, president and chief operating officer of UVMMC, said in a statement. “We will continue to assess the situation and proceed as soon as we are able. In the meantime, we will do everything we can to minimize the impacts on our patients, communities and staff.”
Once completed, the ASC will provide various outpatient services, helping reduce patient load on the hospital’s main campus.

NYU Langone’s $39 million orthopedic surgery center
NYU Langone Health has filed an application to build a $39 million orthopedic surgery center outside Manhattan, expanding its ambulatory network to serve patients in Westchester.
Executives said the center will cater to procedures such as knee replacements, minimally invasive spine surgeries and bone grafts, helping reduce the burden of long commutes to Manhattan for patients.
The facility will include four operating rooms, a 12-bay post-surgical recovery area, a waiting room, and additional spaces for consultations and exams. Although the project timeline remains undisclosed, NYU’s focus on expanding its freestanding ambulatory care facilities reflects its growth strategy, with outpatient visits accounting for 60% of its revenue.
