Optim Orthopedics and Southern Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine (SOSM) have announced a strategic merger.
Moving forward, the deal will unite their operations under the Optim Orthopedics name.
SOSM is a Brunswick-based orthopedic surgery office that specializes in treatments for a range of musculoskeletal conditions.
This merger reflects the ongoing trend of consolidation in the surgery world, including in the ambulatory surgery center (ASC) industry, particularly in specialty fields such as orthopedics.
As part of its broader health care network, Optim Health System operates several ASCs, including the Optim Surgery Center in Savannah, which has specialized in orthopedic surgery since 2008.
The merger will bring together the complementary strengths of both organizations, creating a comprehensive offering for patients seeking advanced orthopedic care in Brunswick and the broader Southeast Georgia region, executives said in a press release.
“We are excited to welcome Southern Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine into the Optim family,” Mike Butler, CEO of Optim Orthopedics, said. “This merger allows us to build on our shared mission of providing the highest standard of orthopedic care while expanding access to critical services in the Brunswick area with a focus on patient focused outcomes and experience.”
Optim Orthopedics will offer a range of services, including comprehensive orthopedic surgery, personalized physical therapy plans to help patients restore mobility and function, and advanced MRI imaging.
By consolidating these services under one roof, the merger will make it more convenient for patients to receive the care they need without having to visit multiple providers, executives said.
“Our patients will benefit tremendously from the combined resources and expertise of our teams. Both Optim Orthopedics and Southern Orthopaedic & Sports Medicine practices are patient-oriented with their goals as the primary focus in treatment options,” Dr. Kevin Brooks of Southern Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine said in the release. “In that regard, this merger is a perfect pairing of our medical values and operations. We’re excited to integrate Optim’s experience & physicians with our robust services & staff.”
Financial terms of the merger were not disclosed.
