Bon Secours Mercy Health, Compass Surgical Partners and AlignedCardio have announced plans to open a cardiovascular ambulatory surgery center (ASC) in the Short Pump area of Henrico, Virginia.
Driven by technological advancements and data demonstrating safety, cardiovascular procedures are increasingly being performed in ASCs. The new facility, Short Pump Cardiovascular Ambulatory Surgery Center, is set to open in late 2025.
The 8,000-square-foot center will offer a range of procedures, including diagnostic heart catheterization, coronary and peripheral interventions, and pacemaker implantations. The ASC aims to deliver advanced cardiovascular care in a safe, convenient and affordable setting, eliminating the need for hospital stays, company executives said in a press release.
“Patients who need minimally invasive heart or circulatory procedures can expect an excellent experience and successful outcomes at Short Pump Cardiovascular Ambulatory Surgery Center, which will be built right in the heart of western Henrico County,” Mike Lutes, market president for Bon Secours’ Richmond market, said in the release.
Compass Surgical Partners is an independent partner specializing in the development and management of ambulatory surgery centers through joint ventures with health systems and physicians, with over 250 ASCs developed in the past three decades.
Some of its most recent JVs include Horizon Surgery Center in Northeast Florida and Jersey Shore Ambulatory Surgery Center in Somers Point, New Jersey.
Bon Secours Mercy Health and Compass have a history of working together.
They formed a strategic partnership in 2023 aimed at expanding access to outpatient surgical care. Together, they have launched multiple ambulatory surgery centers, including the Springfield Regional Outpatient Surgery Center in Ohio, which opened at the start of this year.

Bon Secours Mercy Health is one of the largest U.S. health systems, operating more than 1,200 care sites, including 49 hospitals, across several states.
AlignedCardio is a physician-led organization focused on improving cardiovascular care by promoting evidence-based practices and reducing unnecessary health care costs.
The center is expected to receive accreditation from the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC).
