PRISM Vision Group (PVG), a New Jersey-based eye care services organization, has announced its latest partnership with Friendship Ambulatory Surgery Center in Chevy Chase, Maryland.
The collaboration marks PVG’s seventh ambulatory surgery center (ASC) as the company continues to grow in the DMV (District of Columbia, Maryland, Virginia) area.
The Friendship Ambulatory Surgery Center, a 7,000-square-foot facility with four operating rooms, specializes in multi-specialty ophthalmic surgeries.
“PRISM Vision Group is thrilled to welcome Friendship Ambulatory Surgery Center to the PRISM team,” Dr. Steven Madreperla said in a press release. “Its impeccable reputation for providing superior clinical care is something we witnessed firsthand with so many of our affiliated physicians utilizing the facility for years.”
Dr. Madreperla is the president of NJRetina, and the CEO and president of PRISM Vision Group.
“It made it a very natural partnership and we look forward to continuing to support the exceptional care the physicians and patients in the area deserve,” he continued.
With the addition of Friendship ASC, PRISM Vision Group now manages 13 operating rooms across seven ASCs. The organization operates 90 eye care practice locations, with 185 affiliated physicians and over 1,200 employees in five contiguous states and the District of Columbia, solidifying its position as a dominant force in the ophthalmic care industry.
For ASC operators, this expansion underscores the growing trend of specialized partnerships in the ophthalmic surgery sector.
Each year, over 3.6 million cataract surgeries are performed in the United States, making it one of the most common surgical procedures. Alongside cataract surgeries, other ophthalmic procedures such as LASIK contribute significantly, with around 800,000 refractive surgeries performed annually.
Several notable acquisitions and joint ventures have recently taken place in the ophthalmology-focused ASC market, reflecting the continued consolidation of the sector.
AMSURG and Comprehensive EyeCare Partners (CompEye) expanded their partnership in June 2024 with the acquisition of Alta Rose Surgery Center in Las Vegas. This facility marks the fourth outpatient ophthalmology surgery center under their collaboration, focusing on services like cataract surgery and laser vision correction.
Further expanding in the Mid-Atlantic region, ChristianaCare and Atlas Healthcare Partners formed a joint venture to develop a network of ASCs across Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. Executives said the network will support a variety of specialties, including ophthalmology, to meet the growing demand for outpatient surgeries in these areas.
