MyMichigan Health at the start of August completed its acquisition of Ascension Michigan’s locations in Saginaw, Tawas and Standish.
Officially announced on Aug. 1, the transaction includes Ascension St. Mary’s of Saginaw, Ascension St. Mary’s Towne Center, Ascension St. Joseph in Tawas and Ascension St. Mary’s of Standish, plus all related sites of care and related physician practices of Ascension Medical Group. The deal includes an ambulatory surgery center (ASC).
“We’re honored to be caring for the communities that Ascension Michigan’s Northern Region has so passionately served for many, many years,” Dr. Lydia Watson, president and CEO of MyMichigan Health, said in a statement. “Their employees, providers and volunteers are compassionate, skilled and respected.”
MyMichigan Health is a nonprofit health system based in Midland, Michigan, with more than 13,800 employees. The system operates a full continuum of care that spans a variety of settings, from ASCs and urgent care centers, to home health programs and more.
The Michigan health system reported just under $3.5 billion in gross revenues during its 2023 fiscal year.
Ascension is one of the country’s largest Catholic systems. Due to recent financial struggles, Ascension has been selling off several of its hospital assets, with another recent example being its decision to sell five hospitals in Alabama, according to STAT.
“This is not just about getting bigger, it’s about getting better,” Watson’s statement continued. “Through the addition of these locations, we are building on the legacy Ascension has already established and our focus is to strengthen access to care and services for these communities.”
The ASC that’s part of the transaction is Towne Centre Surgery Center in Saginaw.
It’s a multi-speciality surgery center with a team that performs a wide variety of procedures, from cataract surgeries to orthopedic procedures and more.
