Spire Orthopedic Partners and Ortho Rhode Island Form Partnership

Spire Orthopedic Partners, a national orthopedic platform, has announced a strategic partnership with Ortho Rhode Island (Ortho RI) and its affiliated ambulatory surgery center.

The collaboration establishes the largest orthopedic platform in the Northeast, significantly enhancing Spire’s reach and resources, the companies said in a press release.

Headquartered in Warwick, Rhode Island, Ortho RI operates across six locations, including an ambulatory surgery center, specializing in robotic-assisted surgery and orthobiologics. Formed in 2015 from the merger of four orthopedic practices, Ortho RI has grown into an independent orthopedic practice in New England.

According to the press release, Ortho RI will retain its brand identity, with Dr. Michael Bradley, the current President and CEO, continuing to lead as chief medical officer alongside a newly formed clinical governance board.

The practice’s team of 35 physicians offers advanced treatments across multiple specialties, including joint replacement, sports medicine and pediatric orthopedics.

“We are thrilled to partner with the world-class physicians at Ortho Rhode Island,” Christopher Fusco, CEO of Spire, said in a press release. “Dr. Bradley and his partners are leaders in their fields and represent a perfect strategic fit for the high-quality platform we are building.”

For ASC operators, this partnership signals an expansion of orthopedic services and advanced surgical care in the outpatient setting.

Transitioning spinal surgery to outpatient settings, for example, offers benefits such as reduced costs, improved patient experience and convenience.

The specialized focus of ASCs can lead to better patient outcomes and faster recovery. However, careful patient selection is crucial to ensure safety, as ASCs lack certain emergency capabilities available in hospitals.
